Phi Kappa Phi Forum: Empathy

Last week, March 5, 2011, my first Phi Kappa Phi Forum arrived. :)

Phi Kappa Phi is an honor society which recognizes superior scholarship in all academic disciplines. Membership is through invitation only.  That was why my mother was so happy when we received the invitation letter.  She supported me all the way to buying my new Filipiniana for my induction because she thought of it as my reward for being a studious daughter. XD

Phi Kappa Phi Forum serves as the honor society flagship publication.

Each issue revolves in one theme. For this spring 2011 issue, the theme is empathy.
Wikipedia defines empathy as the capacity to recognize and, to some extent, share feelings (such as sadness or happiness) that are being experienced by another semi-sentient being. Someone may need to have a certain amount of empathy before they are able to feel compassion. In this forum however, one article mentions that empathy also drives the person to do something for that thing he or she empathizes with.

This is one of fave articles. It talks about how social networking sites can hamper one's capability to empathize.
This article tells about yawning.
And the reason why it is sometimes dubbed as contagious even though it is not a disease.
Apparently, the reason lies on humans' inherent trait to empathize.

And this is Poetic Pause, the section where I hope to get published one day. :)
